OVERVIEW
Web-Seminars are live, web-based seminars designed for larger audiences. Dr. Anne Davies, with special guests, will teach key concepts and address audience questions. All sessions include readings, preparation, and follow-up to deepen and extend the learning beyond the participatory sessions. Web-Seminars unfold over a number of weeks to give participants an opportunity to "learn by doing" and get feedback on their in-class experiences.
Anne Davies will broadcast the sessions at various times to accommodate the schedules of participants and answer the questions that come up. In addition, all sessions are recorded and will be available for download for participants to review at their convenience.
There are four Web-Seminar series, which include:
- Applied AFL – Elementary Teachers (four sessions)
- Applied AFL – Middle School Teachers (four sessions)
- Applied AFL – High School Teachers (four sessions)
- Applied AFL – One-to-One Computing Classroom Teachers (four sessions)
Each Web-Seminar series is designed to address the needs and concerns of teachers at a specific level and show them how assessment for learning might apply in their teaching situations.
Each session will include… |
Elementary |
Middle Years |
High School |
One-to-One Computing Classroom |
The Why: What does the research say? What has been learned about the principles of assessment for learning and why this approach makes such a difference? |
||||
| The How: What are proven "how to" methods and practices that make classroom assessment work for students and teachers? What are some tried and true ideas for classrooms? |
||||
| Plan for Success: How can teachers plan for success? How can assessment for learning be an integral part of quality classroom assessment? |
"The work of teachers is where classroom assessment is put into actual practice. I have conducted over 1,000 workshops for educators and have worked in classrooms, both as a teacher and adviser, in many different contexts, so I know what teachers are up against. They need tools that will work for them and their students. These Web-Seminars do exactly that. Participants will be able to put their learning into practice the very next day. This is the kind of learning that energizes our work with learners."
