How School Leaders Can Make a Difference

Web-Conference Series for School Leaders

FORMAT

  • Eight interactive Web-Conference sessions (2 hours each)

INTENDED AUDIENCE

School leaders who are responsible for guiding and fostering assessment for learning initiatives, including …

  • Principals
  • Administrators
  • Vice-Principals

OVERVIEW

This is an opportunity for school leaders to get together and talk about ways to focus a school environment on the learner. These sessions will delve into assessment research and show how school leaders can build, and are building, powerful learning environments. Anne Davies has served as a principal, an assistant principal, in support roles to principals, and currently works with, and coaches, school leaders across North America. She is uniquely qualified to moderate this discussion and provide direction.

The sessions will look at classroom assessment strategies, so that when school leaders supervise teachers, act in a support role to teachers, lead professional learning communities, conduct classroom walk-throughs, or meet a colleague in the hall, they will have a better sense of what is important and how they can strengthen assessment for learning practices throughout their school building.

Join this conference for responses to these key questions …

  • What are key assessment ideas that every school leader needs to know?
  • How do assessment ideas appear from the classroom perspective, and how is this different from the school leader's perspective as lead teacher?
  • What can school leaders do to support classroom teachers and other educators to use assessment for learning in their work with students? How can they assist in the transformation of grading and reporting practices?
  • How can school leaders co-construct criteria with their adult learners to support their learning? How can they support teachers to co-construct criteria with students?
  • How can school leaders engage the teaching staff and other colleagues in collecting evidence of learning?
How can school leaders model quality assessment practices in their work?
  • What are practical ways school leaders can give specific, descriptive feedback to teachers and support staff in support of their continued learning?

"It was great to have you work with our administrators and trustees. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Your invitational tone supported everyone's learning … you had a real impact on my thinking."
