Making Classroom Assessment Work for Learning
INTENDED AUDIENCE
- Track One: classroom teachers and lead learners
- Track Two: professional lead learners and facilitators
OVERVIEW
An intensive course for educators who want both theoretical grounding and practical in-classroom strategies around assessment for learning. The week features instructor-led presentations and group work sessions, where you "learn by doing" and collaborate with your peers.
Track ONE Topics include: connecting to current research – creating useable classroom assessment plans – setting criteria and developing rubrics with students – how to give students the feedback they need while reducing marking – self-assessment and goal setting for students – collecting and organizing evidence of learning – making portfolios practical and possible – involving students in communicating about learning – how students can communicate with their parents to show proof of learning with work samples or demonstrations – writing report cards and having a life – communicating evidence of student learning.
Track TWO Topics include: all of Track ONE, plus: an opportunity for leaders to reflect on the learning and on the assessment strategies that have been presented, and examine how they might use similar ideas in their own lead learner context. Lead learners will leave with resources and materials to support them in their leadership roles. Two additional Web-Conferences will be scheduled with Anne Davies and Sandra Herbst to follow up and extend the learning.
